Class 3 and 4
TOPICS: PROFESSIONS AND THEIR WORKING TOOLS
Objective: To use the memory games and matching activities to reinforce vocabulary acquisition and evaluate its effect on students’ confidence and fluency during class participation.
REFLECTION
The topic to be developed was carefully chosen by the research team. The researchers prepared good material to get students involved and test the strategies suggested in the research. This time the class was based on matching activities and memor games. The researchers showed different materials such as images, definitions, and games to motivate students to participate and improve their vocabulary acquisition; the team was able to make important observations during the designed games and activities.
With carefully planned classes designed to meet specific objectives, the effectiveness of strategies can be evaluated, and improvements can be considered for the next teaching intervention with the students.
Using flashcards helps students pay attention when new vocabulary is introduced. They try to guess the names of the objects shown in the pictures before the teacher reveals the names of each object on the flashcard. Students are interested in writing down the vocabulary as the flashcards are passed around; they also enjoy competing in memorization games, which motivates them to recall the vocabulary.
Researchers showed the professions and the tools used for each profession through flash cards since the students showed enthusiasm and interested to learn more about the tools used for each professions. Students get the new vocabulary through the activity with the matching flash cards implemented by the researchers. Researchers and students need to improve the organization with the student's participation and the indications; however, the students show a good score in the game and memorize the pair flashcards very well.
Next time, the researchers will focus on creating even more opportunities for students to participate actively throughout the entire class, not only during the games or the wrap-up activity. Although the materials were effective and students were engaged, the researchers will incorporate more short interaction moments, such as quick pair discussions or mini-checks for understanding, to maintain a high level of involvement from beginning to end. They will also give students more space to express their ideas freely so they feel even more confident asking questions and sharing opinions. In this way, the lesson can become even more dynamic and student-centered.
