WEEK 3

REFLECTION

CLASS 5
This week´s class was about Cooking (materials, tools, etc.). Students were showing more engagement as the class progressed and their participation is still increasing because of the confidence gained through the sessions. Researchers already knew that some students loved cooking or even bake at home their favorite desserts, so the class was really smooth for them.
In this week, the role play activities were more effective because the students felt more confidence in participation with some vocabulary they already had about cooking and the material they have to use. The flashcards are still showing an increase of attention form the students and they show more commitment for the classes. The time is always working well so far thanks to the efficiency of the activities prepared for the classes by the researchers.
For next class for the week, it is going to be a review for the whole classes given to the students and a general interview of knowledge for the students to put into practice what they learned throughout the sessions provided by the researchers.

CLASS 6
Today was the last class that the researchers gave to the students of Intensive Intermediate English I group 5. Mostly a review of past classes and topics given throughout the sessions to check the effectiveness of the flashcard activities prepared by the researchers in order to enhance the level of vocabulary of the students and also improve their level pf confidence.
In recognition and as a gratitude gesture, researchers decided to prepare something special for the students after classes for their support and attention showed in the sessions. There is always something to improve when we talk about learning a new language but researchers believe that these students have a lot of potential and they will always look for a way to improve their level of English.
Flashcard activities were very effective and also the passion and willingness to help that every researcher put into this project was also a key factor affecting these students.

WEEK 2

 Class 3 and 4

TOPICS: PROFESSIONS AND THEIR WORKING TOOLS

Objective: To use the memory games and matching activities to reinforce vocabulary acquisition and evaluate its effect on students’ confidence and fluency during class participation.

REFLECTION

The topic to be developed was carefully chosen by the research team. The researchers prepared good material to get students involved and test the strategies suggested in the research. This time the class was based on matching activities and memor games. The researchers showed different materials such as images, definitions, and games to motivate students to participate and improve their vocabulary acquisition; the team was able to make important observations during the designed games and activities.
With carefully planned classes designed to meet specific objectives, the effectiveness of strategies can be evaluated, and improvements can be considered for the next teaching intervention with the students.
Using flashcards helps students pay attention when new vocabulary is introduced. They try to guess the names of the objects shown in the pictures before the teacher reveals the names of each object on the flashcard. Students are interested in writing down the vocabulary as the flashcards are passed around; they also enjoy competing in memorization games, which motivates them to recall the vocabulary.
Researchers showed the professions and the tools used for each profession through flash cards since the students showed enthusiasm and interested to learn more about the tools used for each professions. Students get the new vocabulary through the activity with the matching flash cards implemented by the researchers. Researchers and students need to improve the organization with the student's participation and the indications; however, the students show a good score in the game and memorize the pair flashcards very well.
Next time, the researchers will focus on creating even more opportunities for students to participate actively throughout the entire class, not only during the games or the wrap-up activity. Although the materials were effective and students were engaged, the researchers will incorporate more short interaction moments, such as quick pair discussions or mini-checks for understanding, to maintain a high level of involvement from beginning to end. They will also give students more space to express their ideas freely so they feel even more confident asking questions and sharing opinions. In this way, the lesson can become even more dynamic and student-centered.

WEEK 1

RFLECTION

CLASS 1

IDIOMS

Since first class, students showed enthusiasm and willingness to participate in the class. However, in the first activity, the role play they still showed nervousness when participating.
The teaching methods employed by the researchers were good and the enthusiasm showed by the researchers built a really good rapport between students, teacher and researchers.
Researchers and students still need to work on role play activities since this activity is the one that students fear the most because of their lack of vocabulary. Researchers need to prepare more role play activities and memory games with the flashcard strategy.

ACTION VERBS

For second class, applying matching pairs, students showed even more attention and willingness to participate because the activity was funny. More students wanted to participate in the activity and they were even more comprehensive. Their confidence in class activities is raising significantly and they are loving the flashcard games.

Something that did not work very well was time for the first class because there was another group of researchers in the first hour and they took more time than expected leaving our research team with some minutes short. However, even with this limitation, the researchers managed to present all the content and explain it effectively in the given time.
